Additional Assessment Requirements
PGY2 Assessment(for candidates applying for PGY 2 assessment)All candidates applying for PGY2 level assessment must have completed at least one year of postgraduate medical education. Postgraduate education is defined as a period of clinical training undertaken in a supervised educational setting after the completion of an undergraduate medical degree. Intern, resident and house officer are terms commonly used to describe such postgraduate students. In some international jurisdictions an internship or a residency period is included as part of the undergraduate program. For CEHPEA assessment purposes the educational background of candidates who fall into this category will be reviewed with discretion by appropriate academic officials. Please note that educational periods undertaken as an Observer or as a Research Fellow are not considered postgraduate education. A notarized/certified copy of medical degrees/diplomas/certificate must be submitted. Degrees/diplomas/certificates that are not in English must be accompanied by a Notarized/Certified translation. Photocopies of notarized documents are acceptable. Applicants with less than one year of postgraduate medical training in the specialty to which they are applying for assessment cannot be considered for PGY2 or Practice Ready Assessment.Practice Ready Assessment Level(must have been in independent practice within the last 5 years for date of application)Independent Professional PracticeAll candidates applying to the Practice Ready Assessment must have experience in an independent professional practice within the last 5 years. In Canada, professional practice refers to clinical activity undertaken in an independent capacity i.e., without supervision. Accordingly, periods of clinical activity undertaken as a medical student (undergraduate, postgraduate or fellow) are not considered periods of professional practice.
