About the Practice Ready Assessment
This Practice Ready Assessment level refers to a six month assessment for practice ready candidates. Selected candidates undergo a six month assessment in a supervised clinical setting at a medical school in the province of Ontario to ensure that they are indeed ready for practice in an Ontario setting. Upon completion of the six month assessment there are three possible outcomes for candidates:
- they are deemed practice ready and may proceed to apply for registration from: the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and certification from either the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada,
- they are found lacking in a particular area but are deemed trainable - a postgraduate educational experience is prescribed in order to remediate the professional deficiency and that educational experience is undertaken as a postgraduate medical resident for a maximum of 2 years or
- they are found significantly lacking in a number of areas such that up to two years of postgraduate educational experience would not be sufficient to remediate the deficiencies - in such a case the candidate is dismissed from the program.
